FREQUENTLY USED TERMS

Planning a wedding is such a fun and exciting time - dreaming of lush floral designs and stunning tablescapes. But we know sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming when you don’t know the different between a buttonhole and a corsage (and we don’t expect you to!)

We want you to feel excited and ready to dive head first into floral planning, here are some commonly used terms (that go beyond florals) to help you get a jump on the wedding lingo:

Bridal bouquet: The bridal bouquet is the star of the show, the Beyoncé of flowers. We have 3 size options for our bouquets: minimal, standard and luxe. The size and style of your bouquet is determined by the attire and style of the day, whether you want to make a statement or opt with a more refined and understated look.

Maids bouquet: something for your favourite ladies (or men) to hold while they stand next to you on the best day of your life. They can be designed to reflect your bouquet, they could all be different, en masse single bloom or even single stems.

Buttonhole: sometimes called boutonniere, the names are used interchangeably, but they’re both the same. Buttonholes are a small arrangement of a handful of dainty flower stems arranged to be worn by the groom and his best lads. We provide pins for them to be secured onto the jacket lapels.

Trailing silk ribbons: all of our bouquets come bound in silk ribbons (because your wedding should have all the luxuries). However, for some extra wow add dramatic trailing silk ribbons to make the bouq pop!

Ceremony feature: flower towers to overflowing urns, ground arbours to modern plinths. There are countless ways to transform your ceremony location into a magnificent floral backdrop that will wow your guests and leave you speechless.

Tablescape: all of the styling elements that make up you dining table. Centrepieces, bud vases, candles, linens, tableware, menus - all of the delicious ingredients to a jaw-dropping tablescape. You can really bring your unique wedding style to life with your table, whether you want more modern designs or something more whimsical, the right styling elements will bring your tablescape together.

Sign spray: you know those incredible welcome signs designers spend hours custom making and printing to be the first thing your guests see as they arrive? Well don’t you think they’d look even more epic with some florals arranged around it to make it a real feature? That’s what a sign spray does.

Feature arrangement: these are a great way to add additional floral moments to your reception space, my favourite? The bar (& that’s not because I like a cheeky vino). But there are so many areas you can make a floral moment out of.

Bump in/bump out: just a fancy name for setting up and packing down. Who doesn’t love some unnecessary confusion?

Repurposing: simply put, moving florals from the ceremony to the reception. We spend so much time creating your florals, we want them to be enjoyed all night long. Repurposing logistics is something we always consider when designing your floral concept

Floral concept: the blueprint to your floral dreams. We start this process approximately 12 weeks from your wedding date. This is the time most of the decisions that will impact the vibe of your wedding have been made and we can really focus in on your floral plan.

The list could go on, but this is a good starting point to get you all around the world of wedding florals, specifically some of our more commonly designed florals.
